Welcome to South Africa in Nigeria; a profile of South Africa’s foreign mission in Africa’s most populous country. South Africa and Nigeria formalized their relationship in 1994 after freedom from the oppressive Apartheid regime in South Africa was achieved. This event led to the establishment of the South African Diplomatic Offices in Nigeria. In 1999, South Africa and Nigeria created the Bi-National Commission where formal diplomatic relations take place. The Commission is chaired by the Vice President of Nigeria and the Deputy President of South Africa respectively.
The Bi-National Commission has led to several mutually beneficial agreements, notably with trade and development. Examples of some of these agreements are The Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investment Agreements, Bilateral Trade Agreement, and The Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement. South Africa – Nigeria relations go beyond the goal of rooting sustainable peace and prosperity in their respective nations but also to jointly work towards a continent that promotes democracy, prosperity and is free of terror. Both have played significant peacemaking roles on the continent and are also the champions in the transition of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) to the African Union (AU). NEPAD and the African Peer Review Mechanism are also part of the evidence from the collaboration of South Africa and Nigeria.

The diplomatic offices of South Africa can be found in Lagos and Abuja cities of Nigeria. They are as below:
- The South African Consulate General in Lagos, Nigeria, and
- The High Commission of South Africa in Abuja, Nigeria
These two offices are the official representation of the South African government in Nigeria. They are managed by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) which has its headquarters in Pretoria, South Africa.
