Azerbaijan Airlines Plane Carrying Over 70 Passengers Crashes in Kazakhstan
An Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane carrying over 70 people crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan, on Wednesday.
About 29 passengers have been rescued alive with injuries at the site which was engulfed in flames.
Emergency crews are working urgently to extinguish the fire and manage the aftermath of the crash.
The aircraft, en route from Baku to Grozny, was forced to divert to Aktau due to heavy fog in Grozny. Reports suggest the plane circled the airport multiple times before crashing.
Officials have confirmed there are survivors among the 72 passengers and crew on board, but the full extent of injuries or fatalities remains unclear.
Kazakhstan’s Emergencies Ministry has stated that fire crews are actively battling the blaze, and rescue operations are ongoing.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash.
Azerbaijan Airlines has not yet issued a statement.
