Botswana President Advocate Duma Boko has announced a new cabinet following his inauguration on Friday. Boko won last month’s election, ending 58 years of rule by the Botswana Democratic Party.
The President says his government is facing a dire economic situation with a high unemployment rate. He says the new administration is ready to mend the situation.
Boko has told his ministers that it will not be a smooth ride.
“Economic and financial situation, how dire, we will determine as we go along but it is dire. We all can appreciate it. You know it is dire because you feel it. They are going to prove very vital in this unfolding narrative of this new Botswana Republic.”
Speaking to the SABC in Botswana Boko says he will speedily finalise discussions on the sale of a stake in the diamond mining company De Beers. He says it’s important however to ensure that the country strengthens its skills development program in the diamond sector.
