In a tragic incident that has shocked the Nigerian community in South Africa, Chinedu Stanley Asuzu, a Nigerian national from Aro-ndizuogu, Imo State, was fatally shot at his residence in Johannesburg South, Gauteng, on December 16, 2024, at approximately 21:00 local time. This tragic news comes less than two weeks after Chukwunta Friday Julius, another Nigerian was murdered in Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) released a statement on December 23, 2024, confirming the details of the Chinedu Asuzu incident and outlining the steps taken in response to this heinous crime.
The Incident
According to NUSA’s media release, Asuzu was shot dead by unknown assailants at his home. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and local law enforcement has launched a full murder investigation.
NUSA’s Response
Upon receiving notification of the tragedy, NUSA’s legal division immediately began gathering essential information about the incident. The organization has been in close contact with various stakeholders:
- The Aro-ndizuogu Town Union Chairman provided NUSA’s President with pertinent details about the victim.
- Dr. Hellen Marshall, the victim’s sister, was contacted and confirmed her relationship with the deceased. She has requested NUSA’s intervention to postpone the burial, which was initially planned for December 24, 2024.
- NUSA’s legal team discovered that divorce proceedings and asset division were underway between the deceased and his spouse at the time of his death.

Ongoing Investigation

Family and Survivors
Chinedu Stanley Asuzu is survived by four children: Ahanna Asuzu, Nnenna Asuzu, Chinedu Junior Asuzu (Nedunna), and Akunna Asuzu. Attempts to reach Mrs. Busisiwe Sibanyoni, Chinedu’s wife, have been unsuccessful as of the time of the report’s compilation.
NUSA’s Statement
