Super Eagles suffer setback in latest FIFA ranking

By Mark Ogagan

FIFA latest rankings released on Thursday have seen Nigeria’s Super Eagles dropping eight places as their poor performance in the last two AFCON qualifiers took its toll.

Nigeria suffered its biggest drop in recent months, moving from 36th to 44th position, a heavy decline from their previous ranking. The latest ranking is a reflection of Nigeria’s underwhelming performance in the final qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles currently sit fifth among African nations, but their recent performances have raised concerns about their ability to compete effectively, especially at the highest level.
